From Mark Goodman
My brother Jacob passed away on January 4th, 2013 from a heroin overdose after losing his battle with addiction for many years. He was my older brother who taught me how to shave, how to hold my head up, and how to make others laugh. My whole life I have wanted to help others who struggle with addiction and somehow this hot dog rally is playing a part in that. This type of event is something Jacob would have loved and it has nothing to do with the dogs, the bikes, or Durham; he just really liked a good time and wanted to be surrounded by friends enjoying life.
I have found those friends in my life through the ultimate frisbee community who were the ones to start this silly thing with me in 2023. The next year I found even more friendly people through the bike community and was overwhelmed with the positive vibes, helpful attitudes, and sense of togetherness during the 2024 ride. The idea had been bubbling to use this event as a fundraiser to support recovering addicts and this year we are going for it!Â
Although we do not have a dedicated partner just yet (as of 07/13/25) we are looking and reaching out to facilities in our area that we can support. Part of the rally and the cost associated will result in a donation to an addiction recovery facility and we hope you will help make that as large as we can. Along with the registration cost we will be accepting donations to pass along once the rally is done. This will hopefully include some giveaways, a 50/50 raffle, and other events to support the recovery process.
Thank you all for participating and turning something so silly into something so impactful!
